So Heres to an extremely belated celebration of this fantastic debut album from Beirut, the work of melodic mastermind Zach Condon. I was extremely resistant to it at first, hearing only the glaring faults which would eventually become some of the strong points for me. Namely this is how brief and repetitive the album is. One needs only to engage the album in its natural habitat to unlock its secret powers. This is the open road. I unleashed it a couple weeks ago on a week long road trip and all of the melody made itself clear all at once. There are unabashed vocal tributes to Stephen Merrit and instrumental assistance from members of A Hawk And A Hacksaw, but the combo platter is something special that is Zach’s alone. So get those windows down and pump this gem up. Beirut-Scenic World.Mp3
