Rock And Roll Juxtaposition #2: Foo Fighters and Wings-Band On The Run

Vs.

Band On The Run, the timeless Wings classic that you have enjoyed for many years has been given an amplified face lift from the future classic rockers, the Foo Fighters. This is where you sample both and come to the conclusion of which you prefer, the jangly, hand clapping original, or the space rock anthem update. There are many similarities between these two groups, many have been so bold to say that the Foo’s are Grohl’s Wings to Nirvana’s Beatles. How appropriate than, that Grohl should choose to cover this monument to power pop, and further this cosmic comparison. McCartney inserted his charismatic charm into this number, making it a highly revered and masterful track. Grohl has stayed true to its original sentiment, but inserted his rare breed of dignified aggressive stylings. So check it out and see which makes you want to get up and dance. Enjoy!

Live: Matthew Good at the Magic Stick, Detroit

The fog rolled in last Tuesday, obscuring the city blocks of Detroit until I might as well have been in Canada. After all, I was about to see one of the biggest rock stars of the countries history in a rare, intimate, U.S. performance.
The eccentric troubadour took the stage of the Magic Stick in a relaxed, casual manner, and dove into a stripped down acoustic set, comprised primarily of cuts off of his latest release, Hospital Songs. First and foremost, Good is a first class guitarist, and his warm tones cut through the venue, cutting through the smoke and hubbub, frequently inciting sing-a-longs to old favorites such as Apparitions.
Between song banter included a rant about the industry scouting techniques used at SXSW, his severe flu that he was afflicted with at the time, and some humorous anecdotes about touring in the 90’s.
Good would have done well to stick to more singular acoustic adaptations, like those featured in his career retrospective, In A Coma, as opposed to production heavy hits such as Avalanche, or Weapon. Nevertheless, the performance demonstrated a rare textural interpretation of these selections, as well as highlighting the anthemic qualities of some of his old standards.

Video Of The Day: Rivers Cuomo- Lover In The Snow

Weezer fans: Direct your attention to this video. Rivers just gets increasingly eccentric with every release he touches. This one is for the song “Lover In The Snow” off of his latest release, “Alone”. The video is preceded by a long voice over monologue by the Rivs man himself about missing his fathers affection growing up. He apparently has tried to fill this void throughout his life with, what else? Soccer! The rest of the video plays out like some form of reality TV version of a Disney movie with Rivers pushing his soccer abilities to the max. Check it out HERE
